ABSTRACT

Teatro Campesino and its director, Luis Valdez, have had a deep influence and impact on American theatre as well as in Mexican American and Latinx communities in the United States. Valdez and his troupe inspired and guided the development of a national Chicano Theatre Movement; opened the doors to Broadway and the mainstream regional theatres; and gave voices to Latinx theatre artists on stage, television, and film. Teatro Campesino is one of the longest-lasting theatres of its kind in the United States and its influence continues to inspire Latinx theatre artists across the country.
