ABSTRACT

This entry explores the history of La Candelaria, an iconic Colombian theatre group that has performed for over fifty-five years. Its development occurred during a time of political turmoil in Latin America throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The group is well-known for their use of collective creation and the way this challenges the traditional hierarchies of theatrical production. In addition, their work with collective protagonists, incisive images, and humor offer an image of a group that is still very current in the Latin American theatre scene.
