ABSTRACT

Internationally recognized and influential Argentine playwright and director, Arístides Vargas is artistic director of Teatro Malayerba in Ecuador. The company approaches theatre-making as an artistic, ethical, and technical endeavor through which they engage in meaningful, creative experiences to assume and confront current socio-political processes. Their theatre explores discursive meaning proposing a new modality of political theatre that, far from being a bold political pamphlet, brings main issues of our times to the stage: gender discrimination, immigration, persecution, and marginalization.
