ABSTRACT

Teatro da Vertigem has been producing radically innovative and experimental site-specific performances since its creation in 1992 in São Paulo, Brazil. Exploring metaphysical, historical, and political meanings of non-conventional spaces like churches, shopping malls, and riverbanks, Teatro da Vertigem challenges dramatic conventions in physically intense and emotionally unsettling interactive spectacles. Vertigem’s full commitment to extensive research and collaborative work embraces the precariousness and unpredictableness of rehearsals in what director and founder Antônio Araújo calls a “dramaturgy in process.”
