Sabina Berman is Mexico’s leading living playwright. Born in 1955 to Polish-Jewish immigrants who met in Mexico City, she is successful in many genres; her plays stand out as her hallmark because of their incisive humor, treatment of social issues, and superior productions. Berman’s talent as a writer, producer, director, and television personality is exemplified by the multiple awards she has garnered. From accolades at international film and theatre festivals and nominations to the Academy Awards, to national awards for playwriting (including for children), journalism (print, television, film), and screenplays, Berman’s work is recognized for its accessible yet sophisticated irreverence.
