ABSTRACT

This chapter briefly summarizes the lessons learned from the five case studies covering the UK, Ireland, the RoK, Japan, and Sri Lanka. By comparing the vulnerability levels, CHAIn scores, drivers and barriers of health adaptation to climate change, and pivotal milestones, this chapter establishes a broad overview of key performance indicators and facilitating factors that serve as a basis for strategy development and further research in other countries. With the UK and the RoK, two leaders in health adaptation to climate change demonstrated the importance of early research, strategies, and plans on complex future challenges, such as climate change and health, which led to the institutionalization of major achievements in the field, such as the adoption of national policies and the expansion of expert roles in ministries and governmental agencies. The example of Sri Lanka demonstrates the influence of international organizations and shows what needs to be considered to successfully transition from project ownership to policy ownership.
