ABSTRACT

Building on the overall findings of the study, this chapter gives concrete policy recommendations to decision makers in the field of health adaptation to climate change. Introducing the 6-Step Policy Development Circle, the chapter suggests that at least six steps should be undertaken to develop comprehensive and effective health adaptation measures. They include fully understanding the general nexus between climate change and health and the specific risks climate change poses to the respective region, developing solid strategies by utilizing transdisciplinary approaches, and establishing strong institutions that enable the building of long-term capacities within the respective governmental bodies. Moreover, implementing concrete actions, reporting on strategies, plans, and adaptation measures, and evaluating and updating measures are essential components on the path towards sustainable health adaptation measures.
