ABSTRACT

In theory, governments and legislators have enormous leverage to mitigate and adapt to climate change since new policies can have strong effects on our economy, society, and us as individuals. Complex challenges, however, make it difficult for decision makers to find the right solutions. This chapter explains why health adaptation to climate change is a particularly difficult challenge and why it is often called a “wicked problem” that requires high levels of expertise and experience to deal with. It introduces the concept of climate change adaptation and explains why inter- and transdisciplinary research is needed to enable effective decisions.
