ABSTRACT

The third moment in the process of the I-subject is given by creativity, a different name to give a new meaning to what has historically been referred to as willpower and freedom. Within the inevitable ‘autopoiesis’ of Maturana and Varela; the sudden emerging of change in the theory of evolution of Gould, Eldredge, and Vrba; and the concept of emergence formulated by Kauffman and, in Italy, by Pievani provides an acceptable and concrete foundation to creativity. Within the process of each I-subject, creativity constitutes a quality based on the acknowledgement of one’s existence in the light of ‘consciousness of consciousness’. Creativity is determined by genetics, by the environment, and by one’s grasping one’s ‘consciousness’ as existing; it allows us to actively acknowledge our history and to direct it according to our own choices. The quality of creativity is a process. Considering Sartre’s well-known concepts, we can state that achieving this quality inevitably involves passing through solitude and emptiness.
