ABSTRACT

The norms of teachers’ training always start with telling trainees about ground rules. Teachers should set ground rules for each class. At a higher level of education, written rules are supposedly unnecessary because everyone involved in the teaching/learning process knows what is expected. Resistance to learning can operate at many levels depending on the environment. At its most extreme, this can involve violence. At less extreme levels, resistance to learning can involve screaming or shouting out in class, swearing, being disrespectful through nonverbal signals or signs, speaking in class when the teacher is speaking, wearing something such as balaclavas covering their faces or using headphones and listening to music, not concentrating or becoming distracted in lectures.
