ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the problems of using digital assessment and teaching in the context of students not learning. There are according to Pew research, vast increases in cyberbullying, which can now be categorised as a kind of violence, and according to Dame Sally Davies, suicide rates have doubled owing to young people being socially, psychologically and emotionally pressurised on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. During the COVID crisis, Tony Deadlock, an experienced graphic artist, had to deliver drawing techniques online for his class of 25 undergraduate students at Great Durden University. In many schools in the UK, mobile phones are not permitted on the premises. In France, mobile phones are not allowed in school at all. In the UK students resist learning in post-school sessions through using mobile phones on or under the desk.
