ABSTRACT
The rapprochement of the British and American policies towards the French, described in the preceding chapter, was an indispensable wartime achievement. But it did not insure that unity of the French which was the professed desire of all sides — and there were really four sides: the two French groups and the two great powers. I am not sure that it greatly contributed to that unity save in a formal sense.
