ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 delivers a creative economy framework, grounding the reader in its characteristics—including its actors; workforce delineation; sector boundaries; local, regional, national, and international definitions; and global market forces. It offers various definitions and valuations for the cultural and creative economy, industries, and occupations. Practical examples and informative insights from practitioners and primary sources illuminate the field, so that readers can apply the framework to help define what creative economy means to them in their communities. The chapter concludes with suggestions on how to move forward with evaluating assets, with techniques such as community mapping and the collection of residents’ input.
