ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the creation of networks of genres forming complex multimodal ensembles in digital environments. It provides the rationale for exploring relations between and among genres and modes that reflect new rhetorical exigences in science communication online, particularly in the context of the Open Science and Open Access movements. The chapter also introduces key theoretical concepts for analyzing and interpreting genre interrelations and multisemiotic meaning making, as well as terms that are useful for understanding knowledge transformation and (re-)entextualization processes in different forms of genre networks online.
