ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a detailed account of several analytical procedures that can be used to study the complex nature of genre networks in digital environments. It offers a rationale for conducting a text-first approach to analyzing connected genres online. Specifically, the chapter aims to highlight the value of complementing genre analysis with related analytical procedures to obtain a more accurate interpretation of genre networks in relation to (re-)entextualization processes and intersemiotic relations between language and other semiotic modes for meaning-making purposes. The chapter also explains how to apply these analytical procedures to gain rich insights into the lexico-syntactic, discoursal, intertextual, rhetorical, multimodal, and hypertextual profiles of the genres interacting within the network.
