ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the third section of the book dedicated to narrative long form improvisation. It begins by asking the essential question: “What is long form?” It appears to be a simple question, yet there are many answers available depending on your improvisation culture and training. This chapter presents the author’s definition of long form, thus allowing the reader to better appreciate the following techniques and theories. The author also defines narrative improvisation as a specific kind of long form concerned with developing a storytelling thread over the duration of an entire show.
