ABSTRACT

This chapter sheds light on the warm-up process both in rehearsal and before a show. Both situations are very different and an improviser’s approach to warm-ups can differ in each context. Why do we warm-up? What does it achieve? Is it worth doing? These are some of the questions that this chapter deals with. The warm-up process for rehearsals and shows is examined and theories are proposed to assist an improviser in preparing for any situation. The author then proposes a rich selection of his favorite warm-up exercises.
