ABSTRACT
Universal Design is an important guiding principle for the creation of classroom environments that are accessible and inclusive for all children. This is a valuable component of the overall Universal Design for Learning approach. The authors provide detailed background about why the proactive Universal Design approach is needed in early childhood education. They describe implementation steps that allow teachers to plan adaptable classrooms to meet the needs of all learners. This chapter is new for the second edition.
