ABSTRACT

This chapter is dedicated to presenting information-rich descriptions of Elizabeth Green’s tremendous capacity for building relationships with her students and colleagues during a life and career in music education. One approach to framing these descriptions is to contextualize and view them through a conceptual framework. One such conceptual framework is relational capacity. Relational capacity describes the teacher’s ability to relate to the students in their classroom and includes interpersonal skills, such as humor, rapport, understanding, empathy, patience, respect, and trust. Articulating the relational practices of teaching is arguably critical for those aiming to prepare teachers.
