ABSTRACT

This chapter functions both as an overview and a test of the theoretical framework set out in the previous sections. Through an overall analysis of two flashback scenes from two different films (The Bourne Identity (2002) and Jane Eyre (2011)), this chapter sums up the main concepts employed for the cognitive analysis of retrospection scenes (i.e., blended joint attention, viewpoint compression, time compression, and identity connections) and shows how those processes operate together and in relation to each other. Ultimately, the chapter seeks to validate the proposed framework as a suitable model to account for the cognitive functioning of flashbacks.
