ABSTRACT

Transportation of a dead body is an essential element of the funeral infrastructure in contemporary Russia. As a rule, transporting a dead body from the place of death to the morgue is a paid service. In contemporary Russia, it is more common to use small mini-buses converted for transportation of the coffin: funeral companies re-equip the bus interior in order to fit the coffin. Regulations are in place to ensure sanitary operation of funeral transport, but compliance levels are low. The hearse is also used for transportation from the place of death to the morgue on the day of the funeral. There are three types of storage facilities for dead bodies. The funeral hall is a particular room for holding a ceremony of farewell or requiem to the deceased. Mourning halls are located in many medical and funeral institutions. Funeral agencies sometimes operate their own small farewell halls.
