ABSTRACT

The book has shown that it is possible to create suspense in exhibitions with the help of screenwriting techniques used in films. The chapter summarises the reasons why this is, however, only possible up to a certain point in exhibitions. It lists again all the techniques used in classical Hollywood films but also in unconventional films to build suspense and which can also be used for curating exhibitions. Since the effect of each dramaturgical device depends on many different factors, the chapter recommends two questions to ask yourself if you want to use the techniques to reach a wider audience. It emphasises the important role that exhibition design plays in motivating visitors to ‘read’ exhibition narratives and describes the master schema of exhibitions. Finally, it points out perspectives for future research.
