ABSTRACT
The grass may be greener, but so the hell what? How green can green be? There are obsessions with perfect lawns, where every blade of grass is inspected and groomed, chemically treated, and hydrologically sated. There is always a bigger boat, there is always greener grass. Grass can’t get any greener when it’s healthy. Jim Henson’s canonical rendition of “It Ain’t Easy Being Green” is a paean to being different in a world trying to make us all the same, homogenized, and/or making us outcasts and lower status if we’re different. The author suggests that there is an advantage to being the exception, to being different, to being green. Our legacy will not be about how green our grass was, metaphorically or literally. The people around the world who have read author's books, attended his speeches, participated in his coaching, and engaged with his online Forums are his legacy, growing and expanding every day.
