ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book defines Compassionate Love (CL) in all our relationships. It provides the historical contexts that have been missing from all the American history books. The book describes the ancestors of African Americans, the Africans, to finish with the African Americans and how compassionate loving Black relationships allowed them to transform sexual mass trauma and other consequences of the American system of slavery and racism. It describes the broader American cultural context in which Black relationships evolve, starting with racism, the history of sexual racism, the consequences of racism for Black couples, the American culture of racism, sex ratio imbalance, problem identification versus strength recognition, and to finish with successful compassionately loving relationships, conceptualizing coupling and cultural context of American resilient couples.
