ABSTRACT

Baker’s narrative theory introduces four types of narrative: personal, public and conceptual narratives and metanarratives, in addition to the devices used in their creation: selective appropriation, temporality, causal emplotment and relationality. This chapter further discusses the concept of media framing (Goffman, 1974) that shapes the readers’ opinion on a specific topic, in relation to media narratives circulating about Islam and Muslims. The chapter also outlines how the random selection of British, Italian and Spanish newspaper articles featuring translated verses of the Qur’an was made.
