ABSTRACT

This chapter on culture and communication encompasses communication subtopics like linguistic determination, presentation styles popular across the world, cultural diversity that characterizes argumentation and persuasion skilling with variegated significance of Aristotelian framework of ethos, logos and pathos, patterns of reasoning followed in different cultures for problem-solving, cultural preferences for the use of narratology and figurative linguistics, culture appropriate semantic selection, patterning of business documentation, use of instrumental vs. affective, succinct vs. elaborate, and personal vs. contextual styles of conversations, channel preferences, and marketing communications. Thus, the chapter presents A to Z communication literature that offers cultural filters to be used while encoding and decoding business messages for oral as well as written media.
