ABSTRACT
This chapter critically examines the ways in which global development is defined and measured. Charting how various economic measures have evolved, the chapter then considers how more holistic approaches to global development have led to more complex and multifaceted indicators and measures of ‘development’, and how these are linked to shifting conceptual and theoretical understandings of what development ‘is’.
