ABSTRACT
The audience to a sexual offense plays a crucial role in determining whether an offender is unmasked or enabled. However, society is imbued with beliefs, values, and misinformation that enable and facilitate sexual assault and sexual offenders while blaming victims for being victimized. This chapter explores some of the cultural issues that contribute to societal normalization, minimization, or denial of sexual assault.
