ABSTRACT

The focus of Chapter 9, “Depression in the Age of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2),” is on the COVID-19 pandemic as a multifaceted stressor, on its association with depression, and on the provision of telepsychology services during and after the pandemic. Chapter 9 explores the research on the disturbances, stress, physical effects, isolation, and general uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and how the aforementioned factors have negatively affected the emotional health of many individuals. COVID-19 spread quickly and challenged practitioners to respond by using telepsychology to intervene with individuals who were depressed. The chapter discusses the pros and cons of telepsychology and addresses the need for the integration of telehealth for depression in the age of COVID-19 and its aftermath.
