ABSTRACT

Given the chronicity of persistent depressive disorder (PDD), it may not be easy to treat, and PDD may be a challenge for a therapist because of the patient’s chronic suffering. There are many integrated psychological models that have been used to explain the etiology and treatment of PDD. Chapter 5, “Persistent Depressive Disorder,” explores the symptoms, diagnosis, prevalence, and underpinnings or causes of PDD, the etiology of PDD, the benefits of integrated and unified psychotherapy approaches for PDD, and how to implement integrated and unified psychotherapy in practice for PDD. The chapter includes a clinical case example where a therapist combines two integrative psychotherapy approaches and physical exercise to alleviate the difficulties of an adult with PDD.
