ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the individual level, an organization and the societal level of the cases. The cases are used to illustrate some basic risk analysis concepts, principles, approaches and methods in relation to completely different situations. Total Business Management develops a risk program to document activities necessary for implementation of the enterprise risk management. The risk program activities involve oversight and implementation of the risk management, including the hazard/threat/opportunity identification, risk assessment and the risk treatment. In the student example, the focus is on the planning, execution and use of a risk assessment. History has shown many examples of this, where highly relevant uncertainties were ignored by the professional risk judgments but included in lay people’s risk appraisals. People’s risk perception is strongly influenced by repeatedly hearing about cases and deaths. The risks need to be assessed to support the decision-making.
