ABSTRACT

As educators, we are in positions of incredible importance. Contemporary educators have the incredibly important obligation of passing on wisdom for future generations and we are wise to affirm that we stand upon an inheritance of good – and bad – that we did not create ourselves. One suggestion that all educators can affirm is that we ought to challenge our learners to think beyond their own opinion to understand the larger world and their place in it. Educators are encouraged to consider four commitments in our effort to empower students for self-learning as we equip them with knowledge, skills, and tools to take control of learning themselves by the building of effective learning environments.
