ABSTRACT

The concluding part of the book provides an answer to the question of what is at stake in urbicide, as much as in documenting violence against urbanity. It seeks to offer reflections on the specificity of current warfare and how—or why—it uniquely affects urban communities. The idea is to explore why violence against urbanity has been an increasingly popular strategy and to reveal the rationale behind such a policy. A new materialist approach, as the chapter underlines, can be very helpful in demonstrating these points. At the same time, the final part of the book intends to encourage consideration of the chronic consequences of slow urbicide, including permanent crisis and urban trauma, paying attention to the ways in which people are implicated in matter, as well as how matter impinges upon humans. The chapter underlines the urgency and importance of the practices of documenting urbicide, reflecting on current warfare strategies and—especially—on their slow, silent, almost invisible operations.
