ABSTRACT

Additional antidotes and resources are provided in this chapter including gamification, point systems such as pedometers and food trackers, the Pomodoro method, and most significantly Positive Intelligence. Positive Intelligence, developed by Shirzad Chamin, is a system the author has embraced as a way to ‘outsource’ emotional regulation and mental command in her coaching practice. In this system, an individual is made aware of their fear-based tendencies called ‘saboteurs’ as well as their ‘sage’ muscles’ neurologically speaking, located in the more evolved prefrontal cortex and right brain. This has freed her and her clients to focus on strategy and action taking with greater efficacy. It has also allowed the author as coach to install a means of self-supervision as illustrated in a case study about an illustrator client who, prior to her assigning and taking the Positive Intelligence Saboteur assessment, she experienced as uncoachable. Strengthening the ‘sage’ part of the brain through the use of ‘PQ reps’, mini-mindfulness exercise are, like the Mezzanine exercise in managing the Five Emotions, a vehicle that allows the individual to reground themself in their authentic nature, values, and goals.
