ABSTRACT

Ever since Jack MacGowran put together a one-man show of selections from Beckett’s prose in 1962, the dramatic possibilities inherent in his prose writings have appealed to numerous actors and directors. There remain few prose pieces which have not been staged or broadcast in some fashion - this despite the author’s own statement that, as a rule, works should be presented in the medium for which they were written. In this section, the arrangement is chronological by date of first performance, not in order of writing or publication.
