First, the chapter gives a rationale for using a program development process for designing and implementing mental health programs and services in sport organizations. Second, it offers definitions of mental health programs and mental health services in order to clarify what these terms mean and how to plan them. Third, the chapter describes a proven program development process that a practitioner as well as a mental health team can use for the design and implementation of mental health programs and services. Fourth, it sets forth a typology of mental health programs and services, illustrating the kinds of mental health program and services that may be possible in local sport organizations for athletes, coaches, and staff.
