ABSTRACT

One of a client’s basic needs is having the confidence that he can be successful at reaching his goal. Chapter 4 describes steps 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the Mission Possible-program. These five steps have in common that they’re all designed to build and enhance the client’s self-confidence during the entire process, every step in a different way. For instance, step 3 is about organizing support from the client’s direct environment. If you create a strong support system, chances for successfully achieving a goal will rise significantly, and relationships become stronger or even are restored along the way. Steps 4, 5, and 6 are meant to help the client find his inner strength and independence. With the help of little tools, discovering his or others’ reasons for optimism, and becoming consciously aware of his inner resources, like talents, skills, and past experiences, he will build his confidence.

Step 7, the scaling step, is introduced as a tool to enhance motivation, keep track of progress, and even as a powerful tool to integrate other steps in one single creative intervention. Examples from practice illustrate how to do this.
