ABSTRACT

The struggle to strengthen public education and keep students from falling into the abyss of ignorance is never-ending. Educator is not as clear an index as is teacher. But after strategizing, it was determined that it was more important to demonstrate understanding and respect for the vital role that paraprofessionals and support staff play in the educational process. Amie Baca-Oehlert, who served as vice-president of the Colorado Education Association at the time and became president, reflected on the #RedforEd rallies several years later. She fondly recalled the energy and excitement of those days and how proud she was to stand with her fellow educators. Scholars of moral economy showed that actionable ‘grievances’ were experienced as an injustice, not simply an inconvenience, but as a wrong that demanded righting. Psychologists showed that grievance leads to action only if combined with efficacy, or hope.
