ABSTRACT

In organizations, people like to talk a lot, but rarely do they like to make decisions. Making decisions, as they see it, is a way to draw criticism and set yourself up for failure. It is easy to avoid the accountability that comes with decision-making. Anyone who has faced serious deadline pressure knows that patience will not get it done. There are goals and objectives to meet. Resources to nab before they run out. Votes to cast before election day. Writers have deadlines. Movies have release dates. Time is running out and deliverables are expected. Most of what the world sees is the politics of hatred and division or the abdication of responsibility with a go-it-alone approach. History tells us that when a schism in society occurs, the factions rarely join back together. This explains why it’s so important to improve our communication skills.
