ABSTRACT

Using binary logit model by two steps, this chapter first evaluates how different factors impact migrant students’ admission to three types of schools: public schools, licensed migrant schools, and unlicensed migrant schools. Then it applies qualitative methods to understand from both education supply and demand side why public schools admit migrant students, why migrant families are restricted from better choices, and why student choose unlicensed migrant schools. The integrated findings from both quantitative and qualitative studies provide some cross-validating and insightful ideas to explain migrant families’ school enrollment choices.
