ABSTRACT

The innovative part of this chapter lies in the detailed analysis of student individualistic features, family features, and school features’ impact on migrant students’ rankings in class. It investigates how the variables of gender, time of transfers, family economic conditions, and number of children determine migrant students’ academic performances. In addition, it applies Chow test to further explore subgroups and establish related models. The qualitative survey systematically analyzes the challenges migrant students experience from four aspects, respectively as institutional challenges, socioeconomic challenges, cultural challenges, and psychological challenges. The integration of both studies demonstrates a comprehensive picture for us to understand the hurdles for migrant students to improve their academic performances.
