ABSTRACT

When so many people have lost their jobs, when so many people are forced to do nothing, a defense of slacking seems out of touch, perhaps even insensitive. Unlike the pandemic slacker, however, the pandemic go-getter uses this opportunity for self-improvement. They are the ones who commence rigorous at-home workouts, sign up for courses on MasterClass, try their hands at fermenting, bake their own bread, and build their own chicken coop and raise chickens. Pandemic go-getters do not just try to kill time, they try to be useful. For every list of “best movies to stream during one's quarantine” on the internet for the slackers, there is an online article devoted to pandemic projects for the go-getters. So many people have taken up baking at home that flour and yeast were in short supply across the United States. Many people have to reconfigure their home into a workplace, both physically and mentally.
