ABSTRACT
Provisional psychologist undertaking the PsyBA+1 internship program will be drawn towards working with adult population given that their practicum experience in the first year of study (Master of Professional Psychology) has been limited to simulated learning and/or working with children. This chapter considers how you can work with adults in a therapeutic context and the topics included will cover how to gather client background information in the initial session which will provide a platform in terms of undertaking psychological assessment and developing case conceptualisation of the presenting problem. Additionally, the chapter provides evidence-based psychological interventions that can be drawn on in the treatment of mental health disorders. Finally, the termination process is discussed, and a small section is provided for helpful resources and websites that may guide you to implement additional strategies related to the presenting issues that clients may be experiencing.
