ABSTRACT

The final sixth year of training (+1) is referred to as ‘the internship program’ whereby the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) has set out specific guidelines for the education and training of psychologists with provisional registration The-internship year develops and builds on the former five years of training and supports the enhancement and development of the eight core capabilities and attributes (competencies) specified in the Provisional registration standard.

The purpose of this chapter is to assist you in noting the differences between the two programs to aid increased understanding. It will also provide a bird’s eye overview of all the requirements of the internship program to enable the completion of the internship successfully. This will include psychological practice and its requirements, supervision, and professional development.
