ABSTRACT

Paraprofessionals are essential to a special education classroom’s success, and most teachers would be lost without them. Paraprofessionals typically have a hands-on role with students with IEPs throughout the day and focus on support in the classroom, during services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech and language therapy; recess activities; and unified arts. There are many ways the paraprofessional can and should continue to provide support to students, teachers, and programs when schools transition to remote learning. Supporting the teacher throughout the transition to remote learning is critical in the consistency of the programming and students’ success with IEPs. Chapter 9 provides suggestions and strategies to include the paraprofessional in remote tasks and assisting.
