The importance of endings. Endings are one of the most frequently dealt with issues during the final editing stage. What is the purpose of an ending? How does the editor, and therefore the writer, discover the proper ending? Is the beginning or the ending more important? Where do endings go wrong? This chapter looks at several successful endings and the character discoveries that go along with them. A distinction is made between happy endings and satisfying endings. How is the proper ending determined? A look at the scripted ending of The Favourite is contrasted with the final version that appeared in theaters.
