ABSTRACT

By way of conclusion, this chapter reviews what lessons have been learned about the influence that the final stage of the filmmaking process has on the beginning of the process. How can the editor’s final rewrite instruct the writer’s final draft? The effect of emotional logic on the overall effectiveness of a scene is considered. This chapter also reviews examples of highly successful films that began as strong, well-conceived scripts, as well as films that faltered in the original writing but were salvaged by following some of the approaches that are illuminated here. The chapter ends on a brief look at the challenges of the blank page, the virtues of rewriting, and the rewards, both internal and external, of the creative process.
