ABSTRACT
This chapter provides background information on the drug violence and gun trafficking in Mexico, the perception of crime in the media, and the projects methodology. It examines how firearms make their way into Mexico such as the hormiga (ant) run and straw purchases; who the main cartels involved in the current drug war are; and explains the Southwest border paradigm.
