ABSTRACT
The opening chapter describes the need to include street violence committed by Whites in inner cities in scholarly literature. Attention to violence in and among minority communities of all sizes is important because violence occurs disproportionately in these communities and among persons of color due to centuries-old systemic racism and beliefs about criminality and communities hospitable to crime. However, such a focus makes violence by persons of color and predominantly minority communities the story of inner-city violence.
