ABSTRACT

This chapter serves as an explanation of the book’s purpose, as well as an introduction to the synergistic quality of relationships and dreams. Arguments made by researchers and experts in the field of dream work that support the use of dreams in psychotherapy are addressed, and a relational psychoanalytic framework for using dreams in psychotherapy as a means of enhancing treatment and promoting client self-growth is provided. Finally, an overview of the various forms of relationships (i.e., relationships with culture, time, selves, history, diversity, therapy, and more) that manifest through dreams is offered.
